Garage Magazine: Augmented Reality

Garage Magazine: Augmented Reality

Over the last 2 years we’ve been supplying Garage Magazine with sound design for their AR projects. We first created a set of soundscapes for the Garage Autumn/Winter 2015 and 2016 issues and have now moved onto a more complex project involving coding our sound in Unity.

We provided full sound post-production services for this short 360º documentary.

Life in the Time of Refuge is a 10 minute Virtual Reality film shot exclusively with the Nokia OZO camera. It tells the story of Omar,  a Syrian who fled war-torn Syria with his family 4 years ago. They had to leave their home in Idlib, just outside of Aleppo, and became refugees in Zgharte, northern Lebanon. He was just 5 then. 3 long years as a refugee in Lebanon. Omar’s family was among the annual Finnish quota of refugees last year. Now they live in a small town called Kuopio in the middle of Finland. He is 9 now, resettled last year. He has seen more pain and horror in a few years than most of us will ever see in our lives. He still smiles.

Nokia together with the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR and the award-winning film makers of The Humanitarian Cooperative embarked on a cooperation project to tell Omar’s story, highlighting the value and importance of resettlement for refugees. We used the Nokia OZO camera and innovative production techniques to help raise awareness and encourage action on the crisis of our times – the refugee crisis.

The VR film had its initial showing in December at the United Nations High Commissioners Dialogues in Geneva in the presence of Omar, his father, and the Deputy High Commissioner. The VR film and trailer can be viewed below.
